Creating the plan will open up Bipartisan Infrastructure funds for county
Interested Greene County residents are invited to be part of developing a Safety Action Plan (SAP) as a step toward making strategic roadway safety improvements. A workshop is slated for Friday, Oct. 18, from 8:30 to 11:30 am at the Greene County Community Center.
The SAP will identify the most significant roadway safety concerns in the county and outline projects and strategies to address them.
Local jurisdictions that create a SAP are eligible to apply for funds through the Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) federal grant program.
The SS4A program is part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill. Congress appropriated $5 million for the 5-year period from 2022 to 2026. Grants will support local jurisdictions in planning, infrastructure, behavioral and operational initiatives to prevent death and serious injuries for all roadway users. An emphasis will be placed on equity to improve roads and streets under local ownership.
The SAP is intended to help local decision-makers make informed, prioritized safety decisions.
